If you enjoy watching romantic movies or are into so called “chick flicks,” the movie Sleepless in Seattle will definitely be on the top of your list. It screams “Cinderella” story, but how realistic is this? But we all keep dreaming. Nevertheless, the storyline, music, even the constant references back to the movie An Affair to Remember all add to its appeal.
When looking at the categories of romantic movies the most popular is usually a romantic comedy. Although the movie has its comic parts, such as when Jonah is talking to his dad about sex or when Tom Hanks asks his friend what a tiramisu is, Sleepless in Seattle is more of a romantic fantasy. However, is it really possible for two strangers to meet and go hand in hand down the elevator of the Empire State Building after just meeting, or is it just “magic?”
Just how Meg Ryan, Rosie O’Donnell, and all the other women in the movie watch An Affair to Remember with hopes of their lives unfolding in the same way, most of the time this life one wishes for does not usually turn out the way it is imagined. Romantic fantasies bring about feel good moments while watching the movie, but they usually fade away when the movie ends. Just like the movie says, you can’t live your life through a movie, “You want to be in love in a movie.”
